Sand Craftables
Stone craftables
Their raw materials:
Tinkering has new craftables as well as colored ingot changes.
These items are very cool, but they are not rare. (lol in spite of what some neon hair, 1/2 dressed miscreant hawking them at the west Brit bank attempts to tell you...)
Most of the new craftables have been given titles to distinguish them from existing rares, here are a few examples.
There are still some craftables that are have not yet been changed over, however that is something that is on the dev teams list (and by the time this is in print all of the craftables may have different names from the rares they look like).
You can read about all the new craftables and how to make them here:
Sand CraftablesCraftables are not the only thing that have changed. Many things in UO Have diffrent names now in general.
If your looking at something that has the dark grey blackish tag its an older item and will probably never be available again (Which makes these items anywhere from rare to very rare!)
These are some screenshots of paintings fished up in shipwrecks that show the difference in titles perfectly.
New painting with the all white title:
This one with the old title would be a steal at the price listed because its probably never going to be available again. The painting will still be available, but the painting with the dark grey title wont.
If you missed out on the Orc/savage invasions have no fear, there is a new permanent dungeon "The Orc Dungeon", and a new permanent (heavy) savage spawn.
The Orc Dungeon
is located on the north western side of the mountains that separate Britain from Yew.
It has some new items to the scenery and a very TOUGH new monster called "an orc brute" this thing sucks up the damage with little effect, and in the process of fighting will generate random Orcs and Throw them at you.... Literally! lol, its definitely worth checking out even if just to see a Orc being thrown across a room.
Savage spawn area
Located in the swamp that is west of Destard dungeon (same swamp that has the hut that fur occasionally spawns in).As a side note, be very careful about coming to this area on a horse/ostard/nightmare/lama etc, the savage warriors will knock you off your mount and kill it fast, as a second side note Savages get special attacks against Dragons/Wyrms/Nightmares, they can kill one of them in as little as 6 hits.
Bola Balls
found as loot on Orc Bombers, and all male savage warriors. (if your putting together a bola arsenal, try the heavy savage spawn in the swamp west of Destard dungeon).
Bolas To make a bola, you need 4 bola balls (bola balls are found as loot on orc bombers, or male savages) and 3 pieces of cut leather. The minimum tinkering skill is 61.1. When you fail, you will loose some leather but not one of the balls. At the minimum of 61.1 tinkering you will loose around 50 leather for every successful Bola.
Bolas can be used to knock people or npcs (Savage Ridgeback riders) from their mounts. However you only have a small chance of success. If your doing it for PvP and trying to knock a player of his mount bring a LOT of bolas, and be prepared for some disappointments and hard knocks. Unless there is going to be a change in one of the next patches (and their might be) it will be extremely difficult to knock someone from their mount.
I was unable to successfully separate a player from their mount one (long) afternoon on test center, but I received a complimentary can of whoopass for my efforts. Remember the golden rule, it is better to give than receive this especially applies to whoopass and I was definitely on the receiving end of this one.
If your trying to use bolas to knock ridgeback riders off their mounts to tame them, I would suggest teaming up so there is a bard and a tamer in your group. Provoke the male savages onto the ridgeback riders; you have about a 1 in 4 chance of the male savage knocking the ridgeback rider from its steed. Side note the minimum taming requirement for a savage ridgeback is 78.3
Important, once a ridgeback is tame, you need to jump on it and recall to an Inn and Log out. If your in the game on the same server (and possibly on a different server) when the savage rider dies the mount will most likely disappear with him. Hopefully that is something that will be changed with one of the upcoming patches, but its if it isn't you can still keep your mount if you insta-log long enough for the rider to be killed or re-spawn.
Savage Masks
These are found as loot on Savage male and female warriors, you can see if a particular savage has a mask, and what color it will be simply because they are wearing it. There are 29 Shades available, some shades appear to be more difficult to find than others, I'm still hunting for all 29 shades, so far dark blue seems to be the most common.
Savage Kin Paint
These are made with the Tribal Berry. It requires a cooking skill of 80.1 cooking to make, and some flour (available at any npc bakers) there is no loss of materials for "botched attempts" its either a pass /fail depending on if you have the minimum cooking skill.
Tribal Berry
Found as loot on about 1 in 4 of the female savages.
1-Orc Bow, a bow of Bluish dark green almost black color. By all appearances it operates like a normal bow, however it is supposed to be a notch better than regular bow. I would rank it at about a bow of Ruin for damage, and it appears to be a bit more durable (long lasting) than a normal bow as well.
It can be used freely against Players, and monsters, even Orcs.
These are only spawning on the Orc Scout, you can recognize an orc scout in two ways, the first and less common way is to See a green orc, the second and far more common way is either to hear an Orcish Grunting, and/or hear the snap of a bow string.... *GRINS* then glance at you health bar, if you notice a line of Red that Corresponds with the snap of the Bowstring Congratulations you found one! :)
They are fairly easy to find, ride around the Mainland side of Skara, or between cove and Minoc and you will run into an Orc camp. The camps are in slightly different locations on each shard, but in the general vicinity of Cove-Minoc and the mainland side of Skara.
Now that you have found one, or more likely one has found you, here comes the fun part. Killing it without dying in the process (as I did on the night I took the screen shot for the Orc bow). Orc scouts as you have already experienced shoot you with arrows, their physical attack is about that of an Orc, nothing to worry about, the arrows are a different story. In addition to shooting you with arrows they will aggressively hunt you down, and do not give up chase easily, now here is the kicker, assuming that your stopping to Cast spells on it, or meleeing it, when you get it to about 50% of its life, It will Teleport to a random spot, Hide, and bandage itself, so when it gets out of hiding it will be at nearly full health again! And these little buggers will rinse and repeat that over and over for a while.
If your a mage casting Reveal will help, I laid down some fire fields in Trammel, and they did not work to bring the orc out of hiding (or damage him) I could clearly see where the orc was too, as their was 1 spot which had no fire coming out of the fire field.
If your not a mage this is can be difficult, it will be easy to beat them down with melee weapons, however they will teleport, hide and bandage as soon as they are at 50%, if you watch closely you can see where they teleport to, but you will have to have a way to get them out (like casting reveal) you might want to carry some Reveal scrolls.
There is a light at the end of the tunnel if you have a hard time damaging this thing faster than it heals itself, and that is that after so many times it will just stop hiding, and you can hunt it down almost at your leisure (although their bow will still be hitting you).
2-The ORC mask, its a green in color and apparently affords you all the benefits of being Orcish Kin, for starters they wont attack you, you have health coverage, the gym membership, discounts on rental cars....Well they wont attack you while your wearing it :)
There are a few catches tho, putting the Mask on will make you a pal of all the orcs, but it will remove a tremendous amount of Karma by doing it, also should you decide ever have a change of heart and attack an Orc While wearing the mask it will destroy itself.
These are found as occasional loot on Orcish Mages. Unless I had an unusually long string of bad luck when searching, Orc Mages do not appear to be spawning at any of the new Orc Camps, they can still be found at the orc forts and wandering northern Yew, and the west Briton countryside, and in the swamp/forest area south of Trinsic, basically all the old places you used to run into orc mages are still valid.
This last one is not really a rare, more of a curiosity. At the new orc camps there is a new kind of orc, "a frightened orc" I think as a kid reading D&D choose your own adventure books I ran into something similar, if you let it be everything was fine, but if you attacked it bad things happen to you. Well I wasn't going to attack this one, but I had to... in the name of literature :)
For the most part it just runs from you and wont defend itself, then you kill it, if anything you feel guilty about it afterwards, unless of course your one of those L33T kEwL D00d PKs, then you probably feel a nirvana like sensation over your accomplishment...
3-Evil Orc Helm
These are a lot like the Green Orc masks, they are found as occasional loot on Orc Lords, you loose a TON of Karma for putting one on, but there is a slight twist, you gain 10 Points of strength and loose 10 Points of int or dex (whichever is higher)
Lockpicks, Full set aka Broken lockpicks:
These really are not broken but they are being called that by a lot of people, actually its a full set of lockpicks. These used to be purchasable at any tinker shop, but one day just stopped spawning. They work just like regular lockpicks but are not stackable. When you could buy them they cost a few gold more. I think they were 15 or 16 as opposed to the stackable lockpicks that are 9-10 each. There was a rumor floating around that they were more durable lockpicks, from the time I used them I really couldn't tell if there was much of a difference. Since they are no longer obtainable, and not a lot floating around they will go for a pretty penny, they will eventually get Rarer and Rarer as people learn that they are no longer obtainable.
Interestingly enough they look a lot like a set of real lockpicks, not to go too far OOC (out of character) the keys for my sister's car literally broke off in the column, so I started the car with a pipe wrench and drove it to the locksmith. While waiting on the apprentice locksmith to fix the car I struck up a 1 way conversation with the SR. Locksmith behind the counter. As a warning these guys have about as much personality as a ball of yarn. I asked him how many picks were in a "traditional" set of lockpicks, instead of answering he gave me this look, then I started to explain that I played this Game called Ultima online and they have lockpicks in the game..... You might guess how far that conversation went! grrr lol :) But while waiting on the car I had a look around his shop and he had a picture on the wall of some old fashioned lockpicks, they look just like these :)
Rope
This was originally one of the old monthly spawns on the Magencia docks, (and also possibly Jhelom, and Skara). Then for a while if someone sailed their boat under the dock with the pile of rope on it, it would unlock it, so there was a Lot of rope on the market. The code was patched after a few months and it went back to a monthly spawn, however since so much rope hit the market the price dropped considerably, and considering how lucky someone has to be to find it on the docks these days the payoff wasn't as much (most "about monthly" spawns sell for 500k to the millions). It still spawns on the docks every few months, however there is a new twist in for Rope in the Rares market.
It is currently found as occasional loot on Krackens. About 1 in 65 krackens will be carrying some. Also not many rares hunters myself included realized that there are two versions of Rope, one with the end pointing west, and the other pointing east. There seems to be a 50/50 chance of which kind it will be as loot on any Kracken carrying rope.
There are two popular ways of finding and killing Krackens. the first is to go to shame dungeon they are in the water on levels 2 and 3, but no worries they are more than happy to crawl from the water onto dry land if they get to beat someone to a bloody pulp in the process :) (They are one of the few things in UO that can move freely from water to land) Their breath weapon is comparable to a dragons, but what makes them really hard is their melee attack, Boom Boom Boom and your dead. If you are an experienced melee fighter and you are good at Running healing and not letting your hit points get low then you might consider it.
The second (and much more popular way) of finding and killing krackens is with the special fishing nets (see the description in the F-I section). You wont see as many Krakens this way as you would in the dungeons, and the nets are costly, on the plus side you don't need any fishing skill to use the nets, but the most important reason to use a net is you can stand behind the rail of your boat and not have to "melee" the thing. If you only have to deal with its breath weapon you can kill it with spells or archery and heal as it shoots you. Its MUCH safer than the dungeon method.
Statues!! The statue market has been upside down these last several months for multiple reasons.
The first thing that sent it spinning was "the crate bug" basically someone could put a certain kind of container in certain buildings and have a chance of statues (among other things) spawning.
It was a Bug, osi said heads up, then banned several people for using it. They did however say that it was ok to Own the items, (as a TON of them were sold before anyone figured out what was going on). The Bug statues come only in containers, and the container needs to be destroyed on the spot someone wants to place the statue.
Again its legal to own the statues, however many people were banned for using the Bug to obtain the statues (One of the reasons I don't carry Bugs in the guide).
Now the second thing, and much cooler one is that statues spawn as occasional loot on Pixies in UO3d (as soon as I get a Video card that works...lol I will have Pics for you). I understand that its about 1 in 100 pixies that will be carrying a statue as loot.
The statues that are found as loot on Pixies are moveable, as well as Legal to obtain.
The difference between Pixie Statues and Bug statues, are that the pixie ones can be picked up and moved around, as opposed to the bug ones that are stuck there.
There are at least 6 types of statues spawning as pixie loot, here are some snap shots I grabbed while on one of my evening rides:
Even tho the price of Pixie loot statues is currently in the 45-75k range, the occasional monthly spawning statue in Deceit and the one that spawned as loot on a water elemental are still in the Million+ range because when you click on them it says "magic statue" and not just "statue" which is works out very Nicely for the implementation of this rare into the market.
New Glacial Staff Hunting method!
Presently the bulk of Glacial staff hunters take their life in their hands and brave the Throngs of monsters that just pile up in the ice dungeon hoping to stay alive long enough to kill a Giant Ice Serpent in hopes they will be carrying a Prized Glacial Staff
Unbeknownst to most players, there is a second place the Giant Ice serpent spawns, and its somewhere that most players will never venture in their entire UO career.
The Northern Ice caps of T2a.
Its a bit of a Journey that requires a Boat (or an extremely hazardous trip through the ICE dungeon to find the Exit that leads to the frozen northern wastes of T2a)
Go to the City of Paupa in T2a, its a longer boat trip but far less hazardous. (If your adventurous you can launch a boat from a few locations in the north and north east Desert of T2a)
You wont need a map, the sea isn't as wide as it looks, you basically sail north and before you know it you will be at one of the two ice cap landmasses. Sail to the west, and make land fall in the western of the two icy landmasses up there, they both have the same monsters, however the Western one is much more wide open, the eastern cap is very constricted with Trees and cliffs, its easy for the Snow elementals and ice trolls to Corner you. But on the western one you have a lot more room to maneuver
In 10 minutes from when I left the ship I had found and killed 5 ice serpents, in relative safety I might add (compared to the ice dungeon) there are plenty of Ice Trolls and Snow elementals here, but you will usually only have a handful of monsters here instead of a Gaggle of them to deal with.
You will still have to kill a LOT of Serpents for a Staff but you can find them faster here and your odds of living are 9038462394 times better :)
Cheese-wheel w/o wedge:
Found as loot in provisioners shops, these appear to be the other part of the cheese wedge, or Vice versa. Having both on a table in display at your house is always a very Nice touch :)
Blood Vial:
The blood vial has been in the guide for a while, but since elementals now have a "corps" the scavenging method needed an update and some new pics :)
These are found as loot on Blood elementals. If your ego isn't unmanageably large there is a Super Easy way to get them in Mass Quantity Just pull them out of the corpses of dead blood eles once the corps goes gray. :) Many people who kill Blood eles leave them behind.
But if your "Machismo" wont let you scavenge dungeon scraps for these rares, this is one way of killing a Blood ele:
You see a Blood elemental is one Tough Monster, I don't think, (I will admit it in advance, I'm probably going to be wrong about this) that a melee fighter can kill one, at least -I- don't think its possible for a Non mage to Kill one. They hit for about a Million Points of damage, Katanas and spears just seem to make it mad.
They throw spells to, but if you can get off a few heal spells on yourself you can survive their magical attack easy enough.
Here is the trick. Find one; get him to attack by shooting it with a bow, or casting a spell on it. THEN RUN. Let em keep hitting you with spells, make sure you heal a few times so his damage spells don't kill you, but when he starts throwing weaker spells that means its is out of Mana.
Just cast a Blade spirit next to it, Paralyze, or paralyze field it first to give you time to get the Blade spirit off. Then hide or run in -WIDE- circles around the blade spirit. Blade spirits are attracted to Movement, whatever is moving and close to them is what will be attacked.. So make sure your Running in a WIDE circle and keeping the Blood elemental between you and the Blade spirit.
You have to run them out of mana or else he will just dispel your Blade spirit. Sometimes it takes more than one blade spirit.
I'm sure there are Many other ways to take this monster out, this is just one that I have seen done effectively on numerous occasions.
Now if your not the adventurous Type, just go to the level 3 of shame, and pick them up off the carcasses of dead blood eles. A lot of people don't keep the blood vials after they kill the blood eles.
This varies from shard to shard, on Europa you might not find a lot of blood vials, but on Pacific you will find a ton. Feluca seems to be more productive than trammel too. (On Trammel, people will pick up anything and everything).
Pool of Blood:
This rare has been one of my Holy Grails for almost two years. Basically it spawns Daily as loot in randomly spawning evil mage tower at Server up. The tower is gone without a trace in 10 minutes.
I used to think it was a weekly spawn, but have since learned it is in fact daily. Because of the many spawn location possibilities I'm sure its not found every day, and because the odds of actually keeping the pool of blood as loot is slim, and almost None if you haven't read this article no where near as many of them as other daily rares (fruit basket, rocks etc) survive long enough to enter circulation.
For people lucky enough to find the tower, grab the pool of blood and make it out alive they are lucky. Unfortunately most of them will not get much use out of their rare, as it will vanish right on schedule when the tower does.
Since I published the guide in September I cant say how many people have desperately ICQed me to see if their was a way to get their Rare back. Their isn't, once its gone its gone, however there Is a way that is somewhat reliable to keep if from disappearing in the first place.
When you find the blood pool Immediately recall to an INN and Log out with the pool in your backpack. DO NOT PUT IT IN YOUR BANK BOX AND LOG, also DO NOT WAIT AROUND TO LOG seconds count.
Once logged stay logged out until the shard has a save, that can be as little as 2 hours, to be on the safe side you might just play another character until the next day.
If the shard saves while its in your pack you have a good chance of keeping it. Its still not 100% but you have no almost no chance of keeping it if you bank it then log, or don't log out at all.
If its still there when you log back in a few hours (or a day later) its yours :) you can treat it as any normal item now, bank it, put it in your house, whatever. Just remember when you get it you only have minutes to get to an INN and Log, also make sure you Log at an Inn or your house, you have to "insta log" you cant wait for your character to time out, if you do that the odds are good that the tower will vanish (along with your pool of blood) while your character is hanging out.
The location of this spawn is anywhere there is room for a tower to spawn. Since its part of the game it does not play by the same rules that a tower placed by a player does. It can basically spawn over anything but a sever cliff, or trees, or other fixed obstacles (signs, houses etc)
When trammel first came out everyone seemed to be seeing the Tower in the woods north east of Britain, but that faded away after a while, what I believe happened was when housing was made available in Trammel all the spots near the east Britain woods that a tower could spawn were occupied by housing.
It still spawns, but in a random place, basically anywhere there is room.
Most confirmed sightings are in the open stretches of land below wrong dungeon. I would look here first at server up, but it does not always spawn here, People have reported seeing it in the lost lands (t2a) both on the grassy plains and in the frozen northern wastes.
Confirmed location #1 the plains near Wrong DungeonIt sometimes spawns in front of Wrong, but people report seeing it all over the map, so it appears to be random, if its not random and there are fixed locations that it spawns, then there are quite a number of fixed locations.
It comes in MANY different varieties than the pic of the one I have)
This is a good rare to go after, a friend of mine (and rares guide client) was lucky enough to find the tower TWICE! on Siege in the first week he was playing on Siege, he sold both the pools of blood and was an instant rich man.
