Newbie Stealing Training.

This is an inexpensive and effective way to raise stealing from 50 to 60 (or 0 to 60) It can get you all the way to GM, but its not quite as efficient as the pack horse method, and there is a serious problem with lamers that run by and Liberate the Items your practicing with....

I would highly recommend it for Newbie thieves because it works in both Trammel and Felucca, and can get you over the 60 Stealing hump (requirement for entrance into the thieves guild) in a single power hour.

Go to the city of Jhelom, In the middle of the city are 3 Teleporter tiles, take the northernmost one I have shown in the picture, it will take you to the North Isle of Jhelom.

To the North Island of Jhelom:

To get back to the main Island:

The reason you go to the North Island of Jhelom, is because 1-No Guards, 2-Not many people. Head south a few screens and you will find the docks.

On the docks are tons of Barrels

You're going to need some things:

  • 10 Sacks, pouches, or backpacks.

  • 100 lbs worth of Stuff (I Used bottles)

  • -or- 10+ Dye tubs You can save yourself some time and just use Dye Tubs if your only going to do this during Power hour.

What your going to do, is place the Dye tubs, or sacks into the barrels on the dock then use the stealing skill to try to steal them back out again. If your doing this during power hour make sure everything weighs 10 stones (the max weight that is possible to steal) because you will gain skill even on the failed attempts, and the harder it the better the odds of gaining skill are going to be during power hour.

For Non power hour training, you want to steal items that weigh 1 stone for every 10 stones of stealing skill you have. For example if you have 50 stealing you want to steal 5 stone items, 60 stealing 6 stone items, 75 stealing 7 or 8 stone items and so on. Make the sacks the optimal weight for stealing by putting bottles (or anything else) into them.

You will also want as many NPCs around as possible because it increases the difficulty of stealing, and dramatically increases your chances of skill gain. Having NPCs around to watch/catch you steal seems to help both during power hour, and non power hour training sessions.

    Newbie Thief

Put the sacks in the barrels, and the bottles in the sack:

Make sure the total package weight 10 stones, this is 8 stones in the sack, and another 2 stones for the sack itself, making it a total of 10 stones:

Make sure those NPCs see you!

The NPCs will move around a bit, you should to so you are always in their field of vision.

You will have to Use a lot of different Sacks/Items. There is a limit to how many times you can gain skill from 1 item. The lower your skill the less it matters, from 50 to 60 skill 10 Sacks is fine. But from 70 to 100, you are going to want to have a cycle of 100+ Sacks or Items (like dye tubs) that you go through. If you steal the same items too many times in a day you will stop gaining skill from it.

Steal other things too every now and then, like fish or fishing poles from the Barrels, or the Gold from the Harbormasters :)

11 Points of stealing from this 1 Power hour. Also I spent a few minutes recalling around getting the Bags, and Bottles, so you have a good chance of doing even better :)

Note the Dock method, and the Packhorse method were suggested to me by a Number of people, I lost my hard drive and the list of credits. So from memory (and I know I have forgotten a few names, please ICQ me if you talked with me about this and your name isn't here). Special Thanks to: Carbonite, Jucy, River Mage, Klepto, and Gunner!
